The Vucciria is the oldest market and most legendary neighbourhood located with its narrow alleys and hidden places near the old port of Sicilian’s capital.

In the mind of Palermo’s inhabitants the ever wet flagstones of the quarter are symbolic for fresh fish and meat, screaming salesmen and colourful spices. The situation changed. Nowadays the flagstones are dry. The population of the old town shrinked since Mafia organisations with help of regional politicians kicked out the poor people of the heart of the Sicilian capital. The Vucciria quarter is nowadays destroyed and abondoned but some of the old families still resist and try to survive in the challenging conditions. Nevertheless the sense of community is really strong in the small neighbourhood.
